Excellent timing and brilliant line-up of speakers! The vision that these people will articulate will upset troublemakers inside Muslim communities, such as the MCB. Be prepared to create waves with this event and get complaints from a host of people who will dress jealousy and anger, as 'community-representatives-are-missing'. Red herring argument! Progess, well done and looking forward to reading about in online soon!

It's a shame that in the middle of a labour party conference we have a speaker that is more conservative and neo-con than the vast majority of us accross the political spectrum in Britain, let alone discussing how the left should deal with Muslims. Ed husain is the golden child of extreme British and American neo-cons for his hyper-simplistic "Islamism or political islam is the path to terrorism" logic, with his almost utupian solution that primarily defeating Islamism will rid us of "the terrorist threat" and provide social cohesion in Britain. How can someone who is clearly using labour for a very right-wing agedna be hosting such an event? He seems to getb away with it just because he has a Muslim name! And before anyone accuses me of being MCB os Islamist myself, I am not, but even if I was why de-humanise me in that way to dismiss my valid criticism?

Musab - before Ed Husain, I failed to draw the distinction between ordinary Muslims (the majority, thank God!) and the minority of Islamists who peddle a political ideology in Islam's name. And their violent breakaway, Jihadism. I met Ed at a LibDem event two years ago - he left a conversation to go and say his evening prayers. Presumably, this means he has more than a Muslim name? And on dehumanising, isn't it the MCB and Islamists who - again - boycotted Holocaust Memorial Day this year. What does that say about their attitude to seeing others' suffering as human?

I am insulted and find it most demeaning that as a British Muslim you would label me an ‘Islamist’ because I believe in the sharia, the concept of just and equitable Islamic governance and Islamic legislature. We have historical evidence stretching back 1400 years to the time of the Prophet Muhmmed (pbuh) that corroborates the mutuality of Islam and politics, charlatans such as Ed Hussein will never convince the Muslim Ummah (world) otherwise, if this statement makes me a an Islamist then I am proud to be one. Its Ok however, we all know such conspiratorial intrigues which the British have pioneered in years gone by will end in abject failure, so continue seeking the aid and counsel of Ed ‘the defamer’ Hussein, it is only a matter of time before you’ll have to return to the organic, authentic and representative grassroots within the community.

How should British Christians, British Muslims, British Buddhists, British Catholics, etc engage with the left? Diversity and choice produces excellence...right? This is the very reason why the British people are turning away from Labour in their millions. The state proposes the question and the citizens ignore the answers.
