Real change for Britain: what should Labour’s priorities for government be? In York

November 1, 2012 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This event is part of our regional series which is around a new publication we are launching later this month, The Purple Papers: Real Change for Britain, Real Choices for Labour.

These are a series of ‘green papers’ taking forward some of the ideas and proposals that were made in The Purple Book last year. It made the case for the party to develop policies that redistribute power in the market, public services, and the state. The papers  will take this thinking forward and look at the policy choices and priorites that would face an incoming Labour government in 2015.

The four main areas the pamphlet will cover are public services, childcare, social care, the new economy and welfare. These papers have been written by Patrick Diamond who is a research fellow at Policy Network, Graeme Cooke an associate director of IPPR and Steve Van Riel who is the former director of policy and research at the Labour party.

Progress will be in York on the 1 November between 7-8:30pm at the Council Chambers, York Council, The Guildhall, York, YO1 9QN with the following speakers:

  • Vernon Coaker MP – Shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland
  • Patrick Diamond – Research fellow at Policy Network
  • Anna Turley– Prospective parliamentary candidate for Redcar
  • Cllr James Alexander – Leader of York city council (chair)

The speakers will discuss the ideas offered in The Purple Papers as well as their own thoughts about what choices Labour will and should make as a new government in 2015. This will be followed by questions from the floor.
